This year’s match play event was one for the books and we will likely never live down what happened….

Mike Apostolou, who replaced former Tournament Director Leo Borowski, drafted Team Orange and became the underdog for 2024. Would we get our first repeat winner? Would Team Green finally prevail? Or, would Team Orange upset the whole field?

Round 1 kicked off and all four teams battled on a 24 hole layout. Team Green and Team Red were knocked out first round. After a taco lunch, Round 2 began between Team Orange and Team Black. Everyone knew it would be a close battle and after tallying up scores it was declared that Black and Orange tied. We never thought a tie would happen but we had a plan in place that the Team Captains would have a sudden death playoff to determine the winner. Thor and Mike started on Hole 1 and after a short lived hole, Team Black was crowned the two-time GJTS TDTC Champions. A celebration ensued, beer was chugged out of the trophy, the team received their medals, all team members received their payouts and then we realized we messed up…

The next day Sheila began going over scores to post this exact recap when she realized Team Orange had actually won by two points, whoops. We called Ryan, Thor and Mike to inform them of the mix up. Of course, we were going to make this right but it stung. We proceeded to inform all players, redistribute the winnings and put our tail between our legs. We received videos of players transferring their medals and words of encouragement but I can guarantee this will never happen again. The Spreadsheet Error joke in this community lives on!

Even though we messed up, everyone is a winner in this event, proceeds will go to planting trees at Highland Park in honor of our founding fathers of disc golf in our area; Steve Matul, Roy Carey, Steve Olson, Frank Grimes and Phil Corrigan.
