Fraction Run Cup 6
Fraction Run Cup feels like our “home opener.” This is our first PDGA sanctioned tournament of the year at The Canyons and it gives off reunion vibes. Fraction Run Cup (named after the creek that runs through Dellwood Park) brings everyone together and we celebrate the beginning of tournament season, the end of cold short days and the return of life during Spring. Saturday was a perfect weather day with plentiful sunshine while Sunday tested everyone’s resilience with wind and chilly rain. Spirits were high all weekend and there was some great disc golf played.
Notable moments:
Dana Vicich made his MP40 debut and won his division by 7 strokes with a -15 for the event.
Shara Cochrane joined Kacid Glade in FPO and played above her rating. We are excited to watch her improve!
Jessica Matlock takes down FA4 shooting a crazy 116 points above her rating for the event, Round 1 was her best ever at a +3.
Miguel Rodriguez wins his first non-flex tournament in MA4.
In MA3 Bryson Laken takes down his first win.
Dan Klenck wins his first MA1 tournament.
After taking a year off of sanctioned events, Kylie Rotolo comes back and wins the FA1 division.
In the MP50 division, Bill Zgrabik puts together a bogey-free round 1, Aces Hole 5 and wins his division.
Round 1 in MPO Auston Kap shoots a fire 48 ( -11 ), 1030 rated round. This is now the Upper Layout record!
Round 2 in MPO we watched Dan Fairhurst fight his way up 7 spots, both Dan and Auston were hoping for their first MPO win. In the end, Auston prevailed! We are so proud of Auston, he is on Team Dellwood and also an employee of ours, he has been putting in the work and it has all paid off. Auston worked in the shop the morning of round 2, played, won, then went to his second job where he works nights, it’s obvious he’s got the fire to be a good golfer and a good human. Dan, we can tell your first MPO win is on the horizon!
Running tournaments is a labor of love, thanks to everyone that brings us donuts, snacks, words of encouragement or helps break down tournament central, pick up signs or unbag baskets. This was a bananas weekend for the core crew. As soon as we broke down tournament central, Sean, Ryan and Sheila were joined by the rest of the Unstable Discourse podcast crew at Callahan Acres where they unpacked all the tournament assets and repacked recording equipment. They left the same night to head down to Fox Prairie Disc Golf course in McLeansboro, IL. There, they played the course, watched the eclipse and sat down with the founders of the course, The Halleys. That episode will drop on Friday April 19th on all podcast platforms, you are all going to want to make a road trip down there. Blog post about that trip coming soon.
