21st New Lenox Open

For this year’s New Lenox Open we brought back a version of the UFO logo that was used years ago and put it on soft shirts and Swirly S-Line TDs, card winners received stamped leather koozies so they could brag that their round was ‘out of this world’. Some of you asked the significance of the UFO logo, the truth is out there…

It was loud all weekend, the 17 year cicadas were out in full force, their exoskeletons littered the base of every tree trunk and the red-eyed dudes would fly haphazardly around while disc golfers dodged the incomings. Saturday was a perfect weather day and Sunday we had to navigate a lighting delay which set everyone back about an hour and a half but spirits remained high and sun returned for the afternoon rounds. This is an am only event and we run 4 different shotgun tee times throughout the day. We aren’t used to all the down time while everyone is playing and it was a lot of fun to be able to watch everyone and listen for aces. We got in a few rounds of Gaga Ball with Kathy Crick, I was ale to do a Ranch Frostie run with the ladies and Mike and Sean spent all day trying to “ace” the practice basket from the pavilion only for Caleb Hasselbring to do it on his second try after his playoff for 3rd place. A record 8 aces were hit!

Notable moments: (add yours in the comments, I know I’m missing some)

  • Roger “Photo Guy” Tranowski wins MA60 by 14 strokes

  • Rob Jokubauskas hits his first ever ace during round one on hole 6 White to A Pin after predicting he’d hit 6 Red to B (hope you bought a lotto ticket, Rob)

  • Ted Lancaster takes home his first hardware after a playoff for 3rd place in MA40

  • Hot round of the weekend goes to Ray Sosnowski and Dylan Trudeau with a -13

  • Marc Post and Brett Muzzy playoff for 1st in MA40 and Posty takes it on the first hole

  • Gianna Losito shot 95 points above her rating to win FA3

  • In MA3 Ryan Hallerberg and Jon Koch tie for first and go into a 5 hole playoff, Ryan came out on top

  • Machely Lopez shot 97 points above her rating to win FA1 by 9 strokes

Huge thanks to the New Lenox Park District for making the course pristine for the event, they put in a lot of work to make sure it was beautiful for everyone. Thanks to Ryan “Big Cat” Stilson and Auston “Lil Flip” Kap for working in the shop all weekend. Thanks to our sponsors Redemption Disposal & Recycling and Sunteck tts. Thanks to Truckin’ Delicious for serving food on Saturday and even though they couldn’t make it on Sunday due to generator problems they brought FREE hot dogs and chips while we were stuck under the pavilion for the rain delay! Anthony Guzzo and Everyday brought the merch, coffee and vibes. The LEMMAnade stand is officially open for summer!
